Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 1, 2026
Distill – Photo Cleaner ("Distill", "the app") is built so that your photos, videos and contacts never leave your device. We do not collect, store or sell any personal data.
What the app accesses
- Photos and videos. Distill reads your photo library to find duplicates, similar photos, screenshots and large videos. All analysis, including text recognition in screenshots and face quality for picking the best shot, runs on your device with Apple's frameworks. Results are stored only on your device.
- Contacts (optional). Only if you open the contacts cleanup. Contacts are compared on your device to find duplicates.
What leaves your device
- Nothing by default. Distill has no server, no account, no analytics and no advertising.
- Album names. When you create an album from a trip, Distill asks Apple Maps for the name of the city using the location of one photo. This request goes to Apple and is covered by Apple's privacy policy. No photo is sent.
- iCloud Photos. If you use iCloud Photos, Apple's Photos framework may download small previews of your own photos from your iCloud account so they can be analysed on your device.
- Purchases. The one-time purchase is handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details.
Changes to your library
Distill only deletes, hides, compresses or converts items after you confirm, and deletions always go through Apple's system confirmation. Deleted items stay in Recently Deleted in the Photos app for 30 days.
Children
Distill does not collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
